How to share passwords and other information
We've received numerous requests to add a variety of sharing methods to Minimalist. Each method serves a slightly different purpose and has different security ramifications. Here's what's currently available and what we're working on next.
Sharing in plain-text via email or messaging app
Use this method to send passwords or other information to virtually anyone, even people who don't use Minimalist! Be careful however as all information is sent in plain-text and can be read by anyone receiving or intercepting it. Use at your own risk!
This method is included in the current version of Minimalist.
Secure sharing of a single item with another Minimalist account
Use this method to securely copy an entire item, including all fields, to another person's Minimalist account. The recipient must have Minimalist installed and must pass an authentication challenge in order to open and save the encrypted item.
We hope to have this included before the end of the 2021... but no promises!
Secure sharing of multiple items with other Minimalist accounts via iCloud
Use this method to share collections of items between family or team members, with all changes kept in sync via iCloud. This is the one we're all waiting for!
Here's how it will work:
- You create a special "shared vault" inside Minimalist.
- You invite one or more people to become "members" of the shared vault.
- Items placed in the shared vault become immediately available by all members.
- Changes made by any member are immediately available to all other members.
- Storage and syncing is end-to-end encrypted and protected by the same security mechanisms as everything else in Minimalist.
As you can imagine this is a pretty complex feature with some serious security ramifications. We want to be absolutely sure we get it right before moving forward.
As such, we do not have a definitive timeline for when shared vaults will be available. Please know this is a high-priority feature which we know many of you are waiting for. Thank you very much for your patience!
So what do you think?
Will these sharing methods meet your needs? Do you have a question or suggestion? Let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org. We'd love to hear from you!

How to AutoFill a single Login item on multiple websites
Many online accounts can be used to sign-in to multiple different websites. For instance an Apple ID can be used to sign into Apple.com, iCloud.com, and numerous other websites. That's why Minimalist supports auto-filling of a single Login item on multiple websites.

How to see if a password has been compromised in a data breach
Data breaches are far more common than any of us want to admit. Passwords are leaked with alarming frequency. Websites exist where you can check if your passwords have been compromised, but you have to check them one at a time! Wouldn't it be great if Minimalist could safely and securely check them all for you? Yeah, we think so too!
What is a third party security audit and has one been performed?
A third party security audit is a thorough assessment of all code, documentation, and processes related to a software system by an independent third party security firm. The goal of an audit is to uncover potential security risks which can then be patched by the software's developer. As Minimalist is relatively new, we have not been able to perform such an audit... yet!
