How to import data from Bitwarden

Minimalist can import your passwords and other data from an ever growing list of password managers, including Bitwarden. This even works in free mode so you can try it out before purchasing! Here's what you'll need to do.

Step 1: Export your data from Bitwarden

In order for Minimalist to read your Bitwarden data, you'll first need to export it to an unencrypted local file.

Please remember exported data is NOT encrypted. Anyone with access to these files can read them. Please keep them safe!

Please follow the steps in this Bitwarden support article to export your data using the JSON (.json) file format as it preserves the most data.

Please contact Bitwarden support if you run into any trouble.

Step 2: Import your data into Minimalist

You can now import your data into Minimalist from the exported data file:

  • Open Minimalist.
  • Select the gear icon to open Settings.
  • Select Import Items.
  • Select Bitwarden.
  • Select the file format you exported to.
  • Select location of the exported file.
  • Select Start Import.

Step 3: Confirm your data

In our experience importing and exporting data between different apps can be a little tricky. Things sometimes get missed. Please confirm all the data you expect is now present in Minimalist.
