How to import data from Safari

Minimalist can import your passwords and other data from an ever growing list of password managers, including Safari. This even works in free mode so you can try it out before purchasing! Here's what you'll need to do.

Step 1: Export your data from Safari

In order for Minimalist to read your Safari data, you'll first need to export it to an unencrypted local file.

Please remember exported data is NOT encrypted. Anyone with access to these files can read them. Please keep them safe!

On macOS 26 and above:

On macOS 15 and below:

  • Open Safari on Mac.
  • From the Menu Bar, select Safari -> Settings...
  • Select the Passwords tab.
  • Select the "..." button on the "Passwords" tab.
  • Select the "Export All Passwords..." option from the dropdown menu.
  • Choose the location.
  • Select Save.

On iPhone and iPad:

  • Open the Settings app on iPhone or iPad.
  • Select Apps -> Safari.
  • Under History and Website Data, select Export.
  • Select Passwords (deselect all other options).
  • Select "Save to Downloads".
  • Select "Show ... in Files".
  • Select "Safari Export..." file in Files app to unzip the exported Passwords file.

Step 2: Import your data into Minimalist

You can now import your data into Minimalist from the exported data file:

  • Open Minimalist.
  • Select the gear icon to open Settings.
  • Select Import Items.
  • Select Safari.
  • Select the file format you exported to.
  • Select location of the exported file.
  • Select Start Import.

Step 3: Confirm your data

In our experience importing and exporting data between different apps can be a little tricky. Things sometimes get missed. Please confirm all the data you expect is now present in Minimalist.
